FennKats – FAQs

๐Ÿพ About the FennKat Stories

What is a FennKat??

Answer:
A FennKat is a whimsical blend, a curious hybrid of a super-cuddly Fennec Fox (Fenn) and chatty Meerkat (Kat).

Both are team oriented, inquisitive explorers, each with unique features like; radar-dish ears, wide eyes, and happy faces.

Nature’s ultimate hide-and-seek champions, super smart, are best known for caring for their families, and the scenic wonders around them.

What are the FennKat Journeys?

Answer:
The FennKat stories, characters, themes, emotional direction, production media, and overall vision come from creator Dale Thomas (Dale).

His FennKat Journeys are based on his actual childhood experiences: hiking, camping, and cross-country family trips.

Every story begins with a human intention: creating thoughtful, emotionally safe experiences that encourage curiosity, kindness, and reflection.

He sought feedback, and suggestions from his children, extended family, a psychologist, and other authors & friends.

Together they explored characters, refined language & tone, organize storyboards, and imagined illustration and media concepts to support each story.

For what age group are the stories written?

Answer:
Ages 5โ€“11, though many parents, grandparents, and teachers enjoy them as well.

๐ŸฆŠ About the FennKat Characters

Who are the current characters?

Answer:
Part of the Pathfinder series, Tula, Brix, and Kipper experience the scenic wonder of Monument Valley.
Read their whimsical Bios here.

Why is Monument Valley the setting?

Answer:
As a young child, Dale Thomas (the author) traveled this route with his family moving west from Colorado to California. Inspired by this majestic environment, this became the first background for his FennKat Journey stories.

Are these first books part of a series?

Answer: Yes!
Each Pathfinder series is based in a unique location, a U.S. National Park or Scenic wonder. Within each series, there are FennKat characters unique to that beautiful location.

Monument Valley is the first in a string of Pathfinder settings, following Tula, Brix, and Kipper in their curious desert discoveries.

๐Ÿงฉ the Creative Process

Was artificial intelligence (AI) used within the FennKat story process?

Answer: Yes.

The authorโ€™s (Dale) FennKat stories are inspired by true childhood discoveries. A host of family, friends, other authors, and a psychologist were his creative sounding board.

The heart, purpose, and direction of the FennKat Journeys are, and will remain, deeply human.

AI served as an editing coach, a digital assistant of sorts, to suggest and audit narrative rhythm, location & tone continuity, and grammar check.

AI was also key in the development of supporting illustrations and media production. Dale had a vision how he wanted his hybrid characters to appear. He studied effective prompt engineering. AI understood Daleโ€™s vision and assisted bringing his images to life.

You might say these stories were written beside a campfire with family & friends, and with an experienced digital coach & artist at their remote offices.
